Amiga

The current Os version up to now is V 3.9 (still based on 68k cpus). But the OS is with just a 68060/50 MHz still not as slow than the Windows/AthlonXP 1800+ PC next to him, like you would expect....(And no, I don't think that PCs are crap, just the hardware and Windows. Try BeOs or QNX to see how fast, stable and easy to use your PC would be without windows).
Quiet recently Hyperion Entertainment released a Pre-Release of OS 4. It looks very nice. If i find some time, i will upload some impressions of it.

OS 3.9

OS 3.9 is the actual Operation System of the Amiga. It mainly runs on the outdated 68k Motorola processor, but some Parts of the System are PPC optimized. At the end of March 2002 Haage & Partner (responsible for the development of the AmigaOS from 3.5 to 3.9) released the second BoingBag (Something like a service pack ). Although the System is a bit outdated (but it runs fast and transparent, something you can't say about a well known resource hungry OS), it still looks rather pretty as you can see at the screen shot below.

This is a modified Keymap original made by Ber. I've changed a few keys (e.g the Num-Block for use with calculators). The original keymap can be found on Aminet

OS 4.0
09.07.2004

The future OS V4.0 will get released in in this year. All dependencies of the custom chips will be removed and it will run PPC native. Older applications, as long as they do not use the custom chips directly, will use a very fast JIT emulator of the 68k processor. It will run on eyetechs amigaone PPC plattforms. A detailed list of features will follow soon.

Amiga OS 4 is developed by Hyperion Entertainment

Amiga Anywhere is a plattform independent software solution to run games, apps on different systems. Main target are PDAs, Settop boxes and more. More info to come...

A rather poor J2ME rival.
