Modifier keys on PCs - Depend on the Keyboard & work faster

The most common ones are:

Shift – Shift key

Ctrl – Control key (German: Strg = Steuerung Taste)

Alt – Alternate key

AltGr – Alternate Graphic key.

Alt + Tab = Open active applications

Alt Gr + E = € or Ctrl + Alt + E = €

Alt + F4 = Closes the active window

Ctrl + Alt + Delete = Task Manager…

Ctrl + S = saves the active document

Ctrl + C = Copies the marked object

Ctrl + X = Cuts the marked object

Ctrl + V = Pasts the object to where it’s intended for 

Ctrl + P = Opens print dialog…. File

Ctrl + Alt + Print = Screen shot

Ctrl + Alt + Delete = Deletes the object

Windows + E = Opens Windows Explorer

Ctrl + Esc = Opens windows Start menu

Pressing Windows/Start = Opens Start menu

* When the PC/Laptop freezes and cannot shutdown

While working with your pc or laptop and it suddenly freezes and also cannot shutdown, never go about it by disconnecting the AC power or removing the battery (laptop) in your efforts to shutdown the pc. Go about it this way: press and hold the boot (start/shutdwon) button steady for about five seconds. This will do the magic. The shutting down of the pc otherwise may course hardware damage to the pc.

* Error Reporting in Windows XP (Enable/Disable)

Whenever an application has to close due to an error, a pop-up requests to send a report to Microsoft for study and evaluation. This is optional. If you wish, because it gets to the nerves, one can disable the pop-up. To get about it, follow this guide:

Open Control Panel.
Click on Performance and Maintenance.
Click on System.
Then click on the Advanced tab.
Click on the error-reporting button on the bottom of the windows.
Select Disable error reporting.
Click [OK] [OK] .
When the PC is rebooted, the error report pop-up will rest!

* Keyboard

The tips I am giving here are based on my experience with some computer users who ran into difficulties resulting from some minor changes made in their pc or misunderstandings. You can equally contribute or gain from them:

English Keyboards and German Keyboards –

Many English speaking people who reside in German speaking countries and understand the language tend to purchase computers whose keyboard layouts, motherboards and Operating Systems (OS) are base on German Language. As time passes by, they may decide to replace the OS with English one. Once this is done, the keyboard layout and some of the firm-programmed instructions still maintain its originality. For instance, because the of the English OS installed, some of the functions and signs on the keyboard change.  An example is that the “Y” key becomes “Z” key, and/or the “@” key becomes difficult to find etc. One can access the keyboard from the control panel “(systemsteuerung)” and configure it to work like an English Keyboard; but the layout remains German version.
