Kylie - Showgirl Vienna 30 03 2005

My friend and I arrived an hour before the doors to Vienna's Stadthalle were opened and the crowd was slowly gathering. Finally we got in and quickly found ourselves a place right in front of the catwalk, so we were basically about 6 meters away when Kylie was at the front of the stage.

The venue was quite busy, but one side, where the VIP section was located looked rather empty. Thankfully, after the rather mediocre support act that came on before Ms Minogue, more people arrived. The show wasn't sold out, but I guess 10.000+ people saw the show.

The show started at about 8:30 with one of my faves, Better The Devil You Know. The crowd gave a good reaction and welcomed our favourite Aussie. People also loved In Your Eyes and On A Night Like This and the place became more and more hot.

Kylie often waved to her assistants to hand her the water bottle. Poor thing must have been really hot with all the lights shining at her. She flirted with the audience from time to time, but didn't talk very much.

I was pretty excited when she sang "In Denial" (with Neil Tennant's vocals from tape) as I'm a big Pet Shop Boys fan. Cudos also for performing to the "Nightlife" arrangement and not the Original Cast version.

Some of the newer songs Red Blooded Woman & Chocolate seemed a bit lame and I found the arrangement for "Please Stay" too bass oriented. These were the only downers for me, though.

The moon scene was dreamy and it was beautiful to see her fly slowly to the front of the stage.

The dancers were hot and the much discussed Brandon Henschel (some homophobic comments on his website) showed off his gorgeous body & nipples. Glenn from POP! did a nice job, but he wasn't one of the main dancers. There was one other hot dancer, Marco DaSilva, with some great tattoos.

I loved the new version of Hand On Your Heart and the costumes of the female dancers & the over dimensional heart paying tribute to the video, was just the icing on the cake.

The crowd finally went wild when "I Should Be So Lucky" came on. I loved the fact, that her first European single was so well remembered in my hometown. Many people sang along, which is strange for Austria, a country which prefers rock over pop.

Then came the highlight for the German speaking fans, Your Disco Needs You, complete with German spoken lyrics. Pretty well pronounced, I might add!

Then came the encores. The audience clearly were not that familiar with Put Yourself In My Place, but they all sang along to CGYOOMH!

Again, the crowd was a little lame when it came to singing along with Kylie to Especially For You (it wasn't a big hit over here in Austria), but she pleased the crowd as she gave her last encore, Love At First Sight.

Even though I love the track, I feel CGYOOMH would have been a better song to close the show.

All in all, I had a fabulous night, spent too much on merchandising (booklet, t-shirt and keyring).

It was only my 2nd time to see Kylie performing live and I wish I could see her again at another venue...
