The non-destructive determination of the thermal conductivity coefficient of existing components which from time to time are accessible from only one side, can advantageously be carried out with a method which functions as follows: a defined quantity of heat is applied at a point to the component surface to be examined. The thermal conductivity coefficient to be determined of the component has a unique functional relationship with the quantity of heat introduced and the recorded time variation of the temperature at a point on the surface of the component which is remote from the point of the input of heat.
