Flores morphologice hermaphroditi, sed abortu physiologice unisexuales, perigoniati. Flores masculi: Perigonium 4-tepalum, tepalis cuneatis vel spathulatis, concavis, apice incrassatis depressis; stamina 4; filamenta brevia, dilatata, subclavata, compressa, antherae connectivum superantes, thecis ovato-ellipticis rima longitudinali introrsum dehiscentibus, pollen in farciminulis emittentibus; ovarium breve, oblongum, stigmate sessili coronatum, perigonio superatum, ovulis in loculis fere tota longitudine placentae adnatis vel abortivis. Flores steriles: Tepala pistillodium claviforme includentia. Flores feminei: Tepala vertice magis incrassata, subfornicata; stamina imperfecta; ovarium ovoideum, in stilum brevem attenuatum, 2-loculare, loculis uniovulatis; ovula subamphitropa funiculo brevi placentae centrali basi affixa. Stigma capitatum. — Herba rhizomate horizontali crassissimo, turiones nonnullas cataphyllis 2—4 et folio unico praeditas proferente. (Vide notam.) Folium magnum ad basin petioli vagina fere a basi libera biauriculata instructum; petiolus teres, basi incrassatus, infra laminam demum nodoso-geniculatus, lamina crassa pinnata, pinnis juvenculis imbricatim sese obtegentibus, demum deciduis atque in tubera excrescentibus (Fig. 85 H). (Conf. Lynch in Gard. Chron. XIV. (1880) 375, Engl. in Engler’s Bot. Jahrb. I. 189.) Pedunculus brevis vix spadicem aequans. Spatha extus viridis, intus albida; tubus inflorescentiam femineam involvens, quam lamina cymbiformis, dorso infra apicem cornuta, horizontaliter patens duplo brevior. Spadix cylindricus medio constrictus, densiflorus, inferne flores femineos, superne flores masculos, media parte constricta flores steriles, omnes contiguos, gerens.

Species solitaria, insulas Sansibar et Bourbon atque Africae orientalis partem inhabitans.

Z. zamiifolia (Lodd.) Engl.**) — Caladium zamiaefolium Lodd. Bot. Cab. (1828) t. 1408.Z. Loddigesii Schott l. c.; Decne. l. c.; Hook. in Bot. Magaz. t. 5985; Engl. l. c.; N. E. Brown l. c. — Rhizoma usque 5 cm crassum, turiones abbreviatos, basi 2—2,5 cm crassos producens. Folii (stirpis valde robustae) petiolus cum costa 4—6 dm longus, e basi 2—3 cm crassa sursum attenuatus, ad geniculum usque circ. 2 dm metiens, viridis, infra et supra geniculum maculis transversis obscure viridibus ornatus, lamina imparipinnata, foliolis 6—8-jugis alternis, elliptico- vel obovato-lanceolatis acutis, brevissime petiolulatis vel sessilibus, 8—15 cm longis, circ. 3—5 cm latis, juvenculis margine irregulariter nigro-punctatis, nervis lateralibus patentibus, laxe reticulatis. Pedunculus brevis 3,5 cm longus, 0,75 cm crassus, viridis. Spathae tubus subglobosus, 2 cm longus, lamina cymbiformis, patens 5 cm longa, 4 cm lata, dorso infra apicem appendicula fere 1 cm longa instructa. Spadicis 5 cm longi, 1,5 cm crassi, ex toto albidi inflorescentia et aequilonga.

Flores unisexuales, perigoniati. Flores masculi: Perigonium 4-tepalum, tepalis crassis, subprismaticis, truncatis. Stamina 4; filamenta brevissima dilatata in tubum connata, antherae connectivum superantes, thecis ovato-ellipticis poro apicali dehiscentibus, pollen in farciminulis emittentibus. Pistilla rudimentaria. Flores feminei: Perigonii tepala ovarium arcte includentia. Ovarium ovoideum, in stilum aequilongum infra stigma incrassatum contractum, 2-loculare, loculis uniovulatis, ovula anatropa, funiculo brevi placentae centrali basi affixa. Stigma capitatum. — Herbae Africae orientalis, tubere dilatato instructae. Folium solitarium magnum, proteranthium, cataphyllis lanceolatis inclusum; petiolus teres medio geniculo oblongo instructus, maculis irregulariter annuliformibus, brunneis ut pedunculi hinc inde ornatus; lamina ambitu ovata, 2—3-pinnata, pinnis I. inferioribus 2-pinnatis, superioribus pinnatis. Pedunculus quam folium ± brevior, cum folio coaetaneus. Spathae extus viridis, intus albidae tubus inflorescentiam involvens quam lamina lanceolata acuminata pluries brevior.

2. G. angustus N. E. Brown in Th. Dyer, Fl. trop. Afr. VIII. (1901) 197. — Tuber napiforme. Cataphylla 1—1,5 dm longa. Folii petiolus cum costa 0,5—1,5 m longus, lamina tripinnatipartita, partitionibus ultimis vel segmentis linearibus vel lineari-lanceolatis, 3—7,5 cm longis, 3,7—10 mm latis, basi plus minus decurrentibus. Pedunculus 5—7,5 cm longus. Spathae tubus oblongo-ovoideus, 2,5—3 cm longus, lamina oblonga, circ. 7,5 cm longa, 3 cm lata, reflexa. Spadix sessilis quam spatha brevioris pars feminea circ. 2 cm longa, 8 mm crassa, pars mascula cylindrica obtusa circ. 6 cm longa, basim versus attenuata.

Ostafrika: Sambesigebiet; Abhänge der Berge bei Boruma (Menyharth n. 922 bis).

Nota. Folium hujus speciei etiam magis quam illud speciei alterius folium Umbelliferae cujusdam in mentem revocat.
